update (21.4.26) : प and क both refer to hands and legs. Both limbs are largely interchangeable in use in this era. क is used for one type of usage and प for another. Depending on usage upper as well as lower limb can mean क or प. ऋ and ऌ make संयुक्ताक्षर with both क and प. कृ पृ/प्र क्ल प्ल are remnants of those संयुक्ताक्षर. कृ and पृ/प्र are prehensile side of the limb. क्ल and प्ल are non prehensile side of limb. At some point legs no longer remained prehensile and 8.2.18 - कृपो रो लः - is errata added to document that.
