प्रत्ययः
प्र is a prefix indicating natural as opposed to सन indicating desired and वि indicating alternate.
प्र = natural
त्य is like “-ed” of English. It is कृत प्रत्यय directly applied to प्र that normally is उप सर्ग .
त्य - past participle
त्य = that joined and hence “-ed”
य is its वर्ण meaning - join/connect.
प्रत्य = that which has naturally arisen / something that has come forth by itself
प्रत्यय = natural-ed connection
Also, प्रति + अय
reflection + connect here
Also
rope+water float connected joined = join (rope + water, float + tumbi)
Commentary
प्र is a rope/vine growing in water. Another name for that is नल - Common Reed.
