Language meaning: For the म् of the affix मत् is substituted व if the अङ्ग (stem) ends in म् or अ ( and आ) or if these are in the penultimate position; but not after यव etc.
Literal meaning of linguistic interpretation:
If मतुप् is used after a पद having last or second last म “inside” or अ “here”; then read “वतुप्” in place of “मतुप्”
but not after
यव = यु + अच् = When connected by knot OR joined by a walk repetition
दल्मि = दल् + मि = roll sand inside = when मतुप् refers to a footing on sand below water, it does not mean footing above wave. दल्मि can also mean give marrow inside object = break
उर्म्मि = उ र म म इ = up object (water-inside-inside) = wave/ripple = So if “footing above inside” attaches to ripple/wave do not read as “footing above wave”
भूमि = भू+मि = भ उ म इ = ground up inside below OR verb(steady) object(inside). So if instruction is to “footing above that inside”; it is not converted to footing above that wave”
